A Pen Drop

Tonight I came home from my 1st day back at work since I had been sick with a Cold and from taking my final for one of my classes that ended today and it was quiet when I walked in. I mean you could hear my footsteps down the hallway, even a pen drop. That is how quiet it was. I wondered uhh ohhh where is everyone. Hannah was with her Auntie Arlene and the boys were not in sight. As I approached the kitchen where my hubby was I asked where is Dylan and Micah, he stated, "Asleep" @ 7:30 p.m. I dont think my kids have ever gone to bed that early. Micah he pooped in his underwear again. He is potty trained only by #1 but as far as #2 he hides under the bed or under the table. So my hubby was kind of irriated today because he sat him down about 4 times trying to get him to poop but would not budge until he was under the table. So I did not mess around with that subject. As for Dylan I asked what did he do? He did not do what he was told. Dylan has chores and is expected to do them daily when needed. We should not have to tell him every day what needs to be done, he has been doing the same chores for over a year already and still can not seem to remember. Vince said that he specifically told him what to do and he did not do it correctly only bits and pieces. Needless to say this weekend I will be doing a weekly chart for all 3 of my kids. I need to figure out a process to help them.

It was quite weird coming home to a Quiet home....Kind of scary.lol

As for tomorrow Dylan and Micah will be well rested...

photos and organization and back up

So you heard that I was trying to turn my negatives into CD's and trying to store the photos I have in my computer to CD's. Well this has really been on my mind since my cousin lost all her photos on her portable hard drive.

So you heard about how much it was going to cost me to get my negatives converted so my awesome Husband did some homework and decided that our best route since i have so many negatives would be to buy negative converter. So he looked online and found one in stock at Best Buy for only $129. So my hubby took me last night and bought it for me. I was so excited. I went straight to work last night and started and scanned over 329 items which if i would have taken to Sam's since it was the cheapest would have cost me $59. And if the lady would have charged me for the 256 photos she scanned for me at walmart that would have been $84.50.
A total of $143.50. So I already made my money back on the converter i bought because i have a lot more to scan....I mean a lot....so it was worth it.

So here is a picture of my little machine..... I was so happy last night because I actually scanned all of my 1st born Dylan's 1st birthday party.....I was so excited....now I get to scrap them and have copies. Back then when I took pictures with my 35mm i never got CD's.

So today my hubby took me to Office Depot to buy a label make for the CD's...so I started getting to work today with it. I have already downloaded to a CD November 2009, December 2009 and January 2010 photos. I would like to scan all of my negatives and burn all my photos to CD's my then end of March 2010.
It will take me time since I am still going to school.

But I am also making sure to download my photos daily to my computer and put them in date order.
I have decided this year I will be organized especially with something I have such a passion for:
Photos of my Family.

  • What I do is create a folder called 2010
  • Then in that 2010 folder I create another folder called Jan 2010 etc....
  • Then inside that folder I then create folders for each day of the month..Jan 1-Saturday
So as you can tell I am very excited to have a process that works for me.

Do you have a process for your photos?

I do

$2.50

Thinking...................
A couple of weeks ago one of my cousins experienced a terrible problem with her portable hard drive. She lost over 5 years of pictures. When she posted that to her status on Facebook I felt her pain because I have tons and tons of pictures saved in my portable hard drive and I would literally die if something happened to my photos. So I started thinking what should I do............................................
  1. I will convert all my photos in the hard drive into CD's and I will then store them in a BIG CD CASE.
  2. I will find all my negatives from when I took pictures from my 35mm camera and convert those to a CD.
So I started to look for all my negatives because I am weird like that and have all of them even from when Dylan my 1st born was a baby. I was on a hunt for 2 days and guess what I found them. So I started calling around to see the prices of converting negatives into a CD. This is the outcome:
  • Walgreens- I called Wednesday to the Walgreens on Weber and spoke with a Monica and she clearly stated that the charge would be $2.99 and only $2.99. I asked several times to make sure I was hearing correctly. I then asked her how many photos can you put on the CD? She stated up to 700 depending. So Today I went to Walgreens and took my wedding and baby shower negatives and asked to convert these into a CD. They lady name April said,, "It will be $5.99" I asked her O.K. but you can put all the photos on the CD correct? She could not answer so called someone else. She then came up with the answer that they could only put 24 photos on a CD. I looked at her like she was crazy and left.
  • Walmart- I called Walmart and they stated that it would cost 0.29 per negative and $2.50 for the CD. I took the impression that it was 0.29 per negative slip and not per photo so I called to verify and I was wrong. It is each photo.
  • Sam's- A friend saw my post on facebook and she called Sam's and said they said it would be 0.18 a frame if cut, and if you have a roll that has not been cut it is $2.24 + $1.56.
So I was kind of bummed because I really want to do this. Last night I found my wedding photos that were taken by a terrific friend "Veronica" and then my dear friend " Stephanie" found my baby shower pictures from when I was pregnant from Hannah in one of my bags I gave her daughter. When she gave me those photos I was so excited because I literally thought I had lost them and I had given up already on looking for them. It had been 5 years and look if I would have looked in the bag I gave her I would of found them years ago. So as you can tell I was excited. So I started to count my wedding and baby shower negative slips which is about 4 photos per slip and I counted 72. As i calculated 72 x 4= 288x 0.29 = 83.52+ 2.50=$86.02 not including tax. I started to get bummed. Well guess what .I got my wedding pictures and baby showers converted to a CD for only $2.50

I know you are probably saying "What".
Well when I called Walmart back to verify if it was 0.29 per photo negative or negative slip and the lady told me 0.29 per photo I said, "Wow, there's no way I have too many it would cost me over $80". The lady said, "Look if you bring them to me today I will only charge you the CD fee of $2.50". I said really, for real, are you sure. She said yes. So I went and left them and I thanked her a thousand times. I know now that I will have to develop so many negatives a month because this will get costly.
But for NOW I am Thankful and Excited that I got this one.
Here are some photos out of it.

How do you store your photos? Do you have a back up?

here is my baby the day after surgery and he was burning up with 103.6 fever. I was so worried because he had a slight cough before he went into surgery so this made it worse after the surgery. We took him to the doctor and he had to get a shot and a breathing treatment.

Bless His Heart.

More changes in the cortinas household.

Today was a great day for us. We went to Open house at Annapolis Christian Academy and Dylan's class opened up with prayer in Latin. He did great. Very proud momma. we then visited each one of our children's classes for next year. Micah will be in Pre-k and go 3 days out of the week from 8:30-12:30 and Hannah will be in kindergarden and Dylan in 4th. Hannah was so excited, she wants to start tomorrow. As for Micah he liked the play area and Dylan was excited about what his 4th grade teacher was talking about. I know that God will make a way for all of my children to attend this private school. We trust in him.

On another note: My husband and I had been talking about how we wanted to pray as a family before Dylan goes to bed at night but we had been putting it off. You know Busy can do that to you. But it has been on my mind to do this and I decided that February would be the month. So tonight as soon as we got home I bathed the little ones for my hubby ( spreading the love) then checked Dylan's homework and guess what he did not miss any on his math homework, he is getting better at checking his work. Then my little ones were ready to watch a movie but I decided to go get my hubby and let him know that tonght would be the night where we pray as a family in the living room. He was laying down already but got up and we all held hands and decided to start with the little ones to say what they wanted to pray for. Micah just sucked his thumb so we passed him up, hannah wanted to pray for her family and Dylan prayed for his grandpa in the valley who is dying of cancer, i prayed for my family members to serve the Lord, I prayed for Haiti, i also prayed for the Lord to make a way to provide us with the financial resources to send all three of our children to private school and then hubby prayed for everything and then Hannah decided to pray again but this time for her popo dog that died that he be in Heben (heaven)...it was too cute. We all then gave each other hugs and kisses. That felt so good, we will then make it a point to stop the busy and procrastinating and make it a point to spend atleast 10 mintues praying with our children.  I already pray with Dylan every morining on our way to school. Sometimes i will ask him to pray and i can tell that he listens to my prayers because he tries to repeat what i say.I am a proud mommy of my children.

Thank you Lord for them, I am truly blessed.
